Ranjit Hoskote is a cultural theorist, curator, and poet. He is the author of more than 25 books, including Vanishing Acts: New & Selected Poems, 1985–2005 (Penguin, 2006), Central Time (Penguin/Viking, 2014), and the monographs Zinny & Maidagan: Compartment/Das Abteil (Museum für Moderne Kunst, Frankfurt/Germany, and Walther König, 2010), as well as Atul Dodiya (Prestel, 2014). Hoskote has translated the poetry of the fourteenth-century Kashmiri mystic Lal Ded as I, Lalla: The Poems of Lal Ded (Penguin Classics, 2011). With Ilija Trojanow, he has co-authored Kampfabsage (Blessing, 2007; in English as Confluences: Forgotten Histories from East and West, Yoda Press, 2012). With Nancy Adajania, he is co-author of The Dialogues Series (Popular Prakashan/foundation b&g, 2011), an unfolding program of conversations with artists. With Maria Hlavajova, he is editor of Future Publics: A Critical Reader in Contemporary Art (BAK/Valiz, 2015). Hoskote has been active as an independent curator since 1993. He curated India’s first-ever national Pavilion at the 54th International Art Exhibition of the Venice Biennale (2011), Venice/Italy. With artistic director Okwui Enwezor, Hoskote and Hyunjin Kim co-curated the 7th Gwangju Biennale (2008), Gwangju/South Korea. Hoskote was co-convenor, with Maria Hlavajova, Boris Groys, and Kathrin Rhomberg, of the exhibition-conference platform Former West: Documents, Constellations, Prospects (2013), Haus der Kulturen der Welt, Berlin/Germany. In 2015, Hoskote served on the jury of the 56th International Art Exhibition of the Venice Biennale. He sits on the program advisory board of the Haus der Kulturen der Welt, Berlin; the international artistic advisory board of the Bergen Assembly, Bergen/Norway; and the advisory board of the Jehangir Nicholson Art Foundation, Bombay/India. Hoskote has been juror in the field of Literature at Akademie Schloss Solitude from 2015 to 2017.
