Ackbar Abbas is professor of comparative literature at the University of California, Irvine, California, USA. Previously, he taught for many years at the University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong, China. He is currently putting together a collection of essays, tentatively entitled Posthumous Socialism, on cinema, art, architecture, and urbanism in China today. Recent writing has focused on contemporary art, including essays on the British sculptor Antony Gormley and the Chinese ink painter Liu Dan. Ackbar Abbas has been a juror at Akademie Schloss Solitude in the field of Social Sciences from 2015 to 2017 and juror for the discipline of Economics from 2017–2019.
