Gal Kirn studied political theory at the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Ljubljana/Slovenia, and political philosophy at the University of Nova Gorica/Slovenia, where he received his PhD in 2012 with a thesis titled Conceptualisation of Politics and Reproduction in the Work of Louis Althusser: The Case of Socialist Yugoslavia. From 2008 to 2010, he worked as a researcher at the Theory department of the Jan van Eyck Academie, Maastricht/Netherlands, and from 2010 to 2011, he was a research fellow at ICI Berlin Institute of Cultural Inquiry, Berlin/Germany, considering modernistic socialist memorials. He is coeditor of Encountering Althusser (Bloomsbury 2012) and Surfing the Black: Yugoslav Black Wave Cinema and Its Transgressive Moments (Jan van Eyck Academie 2012), as well as editor of Post-Fordism and its Discontents (Jan van Eyck Academie 2010). Currently he is based in Berlin and organizes the Re-Orient Collective (with Niloufar Tajeri), as well as one part of the film festival goEast in Wiesbaden/Germany. In his hometown, Ljubljana, he is part of the project Delavsko-punkerska univerza (The Workers and Punks University) and writes articles for the Slovenian weekly journal Objektiv. Gal Kirn was a fellow in Humanities at Akademie Schloss Solitude in 2015/2016.
