BAMBITCHELL Bio

Group BAMBITCHELL

BAMBITCHELL is an artistic collaboration between Sharlene Bamboat and Alexis Mitchell based in Toronto/Canada. Their practice uses queer and feminist frameworks to reimagine borders, migration, and memory. By employing a wide range of media, they examine the complexity of attachments produced in relation to the nation-state. They have exhibited at festivals and galleries such as the Images Festival, Toronto, in 2014; and the Art Gallery of Windsor, Ontario/Canada, and Articule Gallery, Montreal/Canada, both in 2015. Also in 2015 they have given numerous public talks, such as at the College Art Association Annual Conference in New York, NY/USA; Visible Evidence XXII, Toronto; and in 2016 at Zurich University of the Arts, Zurich/Switzerland. They are part of a wide range of publications including the book Mobile Desires: The Erotics and Politics of Mobility Justice (Palgrave Macmillan, 2015). The duo just completed a residency at the Santa Fe Art Institute, Santa Fe, NM/USA. Sharlene Bamboat and Alexis Mitchell have been fellows in the field of Video/Film/New Media at Akademie Schloss Solitude in 2016.
